Thank you very much to all of the parents and teachers who helped make the Book Fair a success. The Scholastic Book Fair event is always exciting for the teachers and students. So many wonderful books to choose from at the Fair. Our goal was to earn more money this year than last year and we achieved our goal. We earned $1,446.23 for Willard East. This money will be used to purchase the Weekly Reader for every kindergarten thru fourth grade student. Our subscription will start in November and continue for the entire school year. We can assess how the teachers, parents and students enjoyed and used the reader at the end of the year and then make decisions about the following year. I am very excited about the Weekly Reader. Each Weekly Reader is written for a specific grade level so the information and content is age appropriate and appealing.
Thank you again for all of your help and support during this fundraiser. Our next Book Fair is scheduled for April/May.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled for September 21 - September 27 from 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM. We invite you to our school to share in this celebration of books and reading. Not only does the Book Fair help raise funds to purchase essential classroom and libraryresources, it encourages reading among our students.
As students grow older, it is so important to keep books in their lives. Students who remain readers now are more likely to be lifelong learners. Readers develop larger vocabularies, a greater knowledge of the world, and higher academic achievement. In fact, studies indicate that being a reader is more predictive of success than intelligence, economic background, or gender.
Our Book Fair provides a wide variety of books specifically selected to appeal to elementary students. Students will discover books that are entertaining, inspirational, and a resource for dealing with emerging emotions. In addition, our Fair will have bestsellers that adults will find interesting and useful.
A special Family Event will be held during Open House on Tuesday, September_25th from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Come browse and find books that can help your child stay connected with reading. At our Fair, we will also have a Classroom Wish List board on display for anyone interested in helping our teachers add more books to their classroom library shelves. Classroom libraries reinforce positive learning environments and provide all students with greater access to books.
If for some reason you are not able to attend the Fair in person, we encourage you to discuss the Book Fair with your child to determine what books he or she may want to add to their personal collection.

Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year at Willard East Elementary School. My name is Mrs. Miller. I am the librarian. I have been working in the Willard schools for fourteen years. I love reading books. I remember when I was in fifth grade our teacher read “Where the Red Fern Grows” to us every day after lunch. I couldn’t wait to hear the daily readings from that book. I hope to generate the same enthusiasm for reading that I had as a child. Individual reading and reading as a family are so important for children. I encourage all of our Willard East families to make a daily habit of reading. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you need assistance in selecting books for your children. I am looking forward to working with the students, parents and teachers at Willard East!
